The Hemming Bird - My Story

Passionate educator, creative soul and the heart behind The Hemming Bird

Meet Sarah

Hi, I'm Sarah, and welcome to the Hemming Bird!

Welcome to this creative space which has evolved over many years and many experiences into what it is today. What started as a love of sewing when I was young has evolved to include the teaching I have done earlier in my career.

With a young family and moved to a new area, I made all the curtains and blinds for our home using the skills from the soft furnishings courses I had studied, applying the attention to detail and hand-finishing methods for a truly professional look.

Then came requests from friends and family and finally for outside clients; the learning curve steep but incredibly satisfying.

And in recent years I created the teaching environment I love in the form of soft furnishing and also now beginners sewing classes in my Warwickshire workshop/studio where it has been an absolute joy watching my students flourish and create.

My Story

But why stop there, I found myself asking? So, I have now carefully and systematically adapted each of my courses to be effective and available online.
Read on to see photos and comments from some of my lovely students. See what you too could make, how much confidence you could gain and just how far you can take your creativity.

I've still got plenty of ideas to explore and soft furnishings to make, but for now I do hope you enjoy browsing round the website and at some point signing up for one or other of the courses on offer.

I look forward to teaching you soon.

With best wishes

Sarah
